My Approach

My Approach

I offer a free initial 30-minute telephone consultation. This gives you an opportunity to have a confidential and supportive chat with me, which allows me to gain a better understanding of your child’s difficulties. It will also allow you to ask any questions about my approach and the therapeutic process. As the child’s parent you are the expert and can offer valuable insights.

If your child is under 11 years old, the next step will be to have a face-to-face parent consultation. This is important as it allows you to provide more details about the context of your child’s problems and life experiences.

If you decide to move forward with 1-1 therapeutic support for your child, I will invite them to have an initial assessment session with me. This will give them an opportunity to share any worries or difficulties they are experiencing or ask me any questions about how I can support them. It will also give them an opportunity to see if I am the right therapist for them. The relationship between your child and me is at the heart of the therapeutic process so it is important they feel comfortable talking to me.

If your child decides to continue working with me, we can schedule regular sessions. They usually happen on a weekly basis. I suggest that initially we schedule six sessions then we all review to see how the process is going. I can offer short-term support between 10-12 sessions, or long-term support. The therapeutic process takes time and needs patience and commitment from everyone involved.
